Awesome start! The main character is intriguing so far and the chapter’s well thought out; I like the execution of the beginning. 
My only critique would be that there are tense switches between past and present, so just keep in mind to keep it consistent. 

Other than that, I can tell this is going to be a good story and I can’t wait to read more! Amazing job, Des!
