I went to college after three days. Pleasant weather, almost forgot everything that happened to me earlier and almost got over that boy. I was happy, very happy.
Someone shouted my name. No one was there, so I continued walking.
Now louder than the previous note, a deep unknown voice came from behind called my name. It was him, all I could do was stay still with his commanding voice. How did he know my name when I don’t know his? Oh, of course Bella.
“Hi” First time I heard him.
I kept staring at him, blanked.
“Daphne?” his husky voice took over my whole body. Damn, he has a husky voice.
I raised my eyebrows with my mind repeating his husky voice again and again.
“Are you fine? Bella told me you were not well.”
Bella’s name made me come back to my senses. I blinked twice.
“Yeah! Yeah, I am totally fine. Thank you.” I turned back.
“But you don’t look fine.” he spoke while following me.
“I told you I am fine. When I said I am then I am. Why do you ask me again and again? Why are you concerned? Go look for Bella.” I shouted at him
Suddenly I realised that wasn’t good. We talked for the first time; he was my friend’s boyfriend. I shouldn't have talked to him like that.
“Sorry! I am so sorry. I am a bit concerned about studies. I could not study for the past few days.” I lied to make him believe in me and not complain about me to Bella.
He gave me an understanding look and smiled. He was offering me help in my studies.
Will he help me? Why? No, no I don’t need his help.
I tried changing the topic by asking about Bella’s whereabouts.
He looked surprised and told me that she had been out of station for the past few days.
“Oh yeah, she told me. I forgot” my silly smile took over.
We somehow kept on talking and reached the class. This was the first time I felt bad for reaching the class early.
I stopped and asked his name. He looked surprised again.
“Well it seems you are absent minded most of the time. Bella told you my name, the first day we met. Remember?” He snorted.
“You can say I lost partial memory of the first day of the week because I wanted to. Let me introduce myself. Hi, I am Daphne Tuffin.” I put forward my hand with a tight smile.
“Hi, I am Phoebus Avlon.” He snorted again. Our hands met and an electric feeling went throughout my body. I took back my hand immediately and went to my seat.
He might think I am stupid. I acted weirdly in our first meet well, Bella was not there so our first meet alone, not totally but yeah it was.

I tried everything throughout the day to avoid him.
I was going back towards home before he could see me but I heard his voice asking me to wait which was truly commanding. I stopped without turning.
He was breathing heavily as he had to run towards me. He repeated about him being ready to help me in my studies which I didn't catch up on during my leave.
“No thanks, Mr. Avlon.” I started walking again.
“Are you running away?” he shouted.
I stopped with wide eyes and turned to defend myself
“Me? Why…why do you think I am running? Why will I run away?”
He laughed again. It seemed more euphoric to me but I had to keep myself together.
“You laugh a lot Mr. Avlon.” I kept my face straight even though I wanted to smile at him.
“You make me laugh.” His wrinkled eyes and that wide smile were making my knees weak.
“Sorry, I was just joking. Well, you are Bella’s friend so you are my friend too. Let me help you.” He spoke as if he knew the way to convince me. He had a way with words.
Did he say we are friends? He’s totally wrong. We can’t be friends, never ever in a thousand years at least.
“I don’t make friends without knowing someone even when you are a friend of one of my friends.” I am good at defending myself and yes, a boyfriend is a friend too.
“What can I do to become your friend?” He asked.
But why does he want to be my friend? Isn’t being with my friend enough for him? I do not want to be his friend.
I stared at him for some time, thinking of some excuse to run back directly to my room.
“Nothing. If you excuse me, I need to go back home, it will be late.” I turned back and tried to walk fast, not showing that I was running away.
It was so intense. Him, his voice, his laugh. It seems he is taking over my whole body.

“Are you fine? Your cheeks are so red.” Alena touched my cheek
“I am fine. Why didn’t you knock on the door first?”
“Yeah sorry I was just passing by but you seem different since past few weeks. Are you doing well? Did something happen? I saw you entering the room strangely.”
How can she see me coming in? I walked really fast.
“You caught me off guard, that's why I might look strange. Everything is fine.”
“It doesn’t seem so.”
Siblings do read each other’s minds, don’t they?
“If you don’t mind, can I ask you something?” I hesitated a bit.
“Yeah sure. Ask me.” She sat beside me.
“Why didn’t Ma allow you to be with Ares? I don’t remember much about him, but you both loved each other, right?” I spoke within one breath
She paused for a while. It looked like I pressed the wound which was yet to be healed.
“Sorry Alena. I shouldn’t have asked you about it.” I was feeling guilty.
“Don’t be sorry Daph. You should know about it.” She sighed.
“Ares made me fall in his trap, me thinking that it was love, I kept following his path. He forced me to get involved in drug peddling and at a certain moment I was. Ma helped me come out of it. Even after her threat, he continued to influence me. I was really in a bad condition. Because of me, ma and dad had to listen to various bad things from the neighbours. They used to say I was a bad influencer for their children and I do agree. You remember I went to granny’s house for three days and you were very sad that I didn’t take you with me? I wasn’t at granny’s; I was in the prison. To keep me away from that hell, we had to leave home and for that I do feel guilty.” She started sobbing.
I patted her back and tried to show some empathy because in my family we usually don’t let one get low by showing sympathy in their guilt.
“It’s not your fault Alena. You came out of it, that’s a very big thing and you know this place is much better than home, very much and for that I should be thankful to you.” I smiled and heard a short laugh from her side.
“You know I feel guilty asking Ma about it when she told me about the love story of granny and grandpa.”
She looked puzzled.
“Yeah. Granny went to Delaware just for grandpa.”
“That’s partially true, dear.”
“Huh? But ma said that it is. What is the story? Tell me.” I was shocked. Ma couldn’t lie to me.
“I am sorry. You should ask her about it. I am not the one who should tell you about it.” She looked at me with her guilty face.

Why on earth has my life become unpredictable these days?

I can never live for long in suspense. Ma always told us that lying is a bad habit, it's not that i never lied to them and currently I have been lying to them continuously but she lying to me about granny’s love story doesn’t make any sense to me. I was moments ago amused by that story but now it's killing me thinking whatever she said was a lie or there is more in that story.
All the things going on right now with me are making my single life more terrible which I never cared about until Bella got into a relationship.
I know Bella is beautiful- blonde hair, green eyes with braces as her dentist says she needs to keep it three more years since the past twelve years. I feel sad when she has pain due to those braces but she still looks cute in them. The first time she got it was when we initially joined the high school, with two ponies she looked like a badass college going girl according to our young days. Boys used to look at her like she was the only girl and many of them became my friend just to get closer to her. I mean who does that? If you want to get close to someone, go to them instead of using someone already close to them. Sometimes I get confused- Am I happy for her or sad for my luck which is getting worse day by day?
