The entrance to Sub-basement Level Seven did not appear on any official Hogwarts map.

Not even the enchanted architectural records in the Headmaster’s office acknowledged its existence.

The hidden corridor only revealed itself when Mira pressed her hand against a section of damp dungeon stone while speaking softly in Parseltongue.

Ancient silver-green runes slid across the wall like waking serpents.

Then the stone groaned.

Dust drifted downward.

And the passage opened.

Professor McGonagall stared.

“…I have taught at this school for decades.”

Draco glanced sideways at her.

“That seems to happen around Mira quite a lot.”

Snape gave him a look that suggested agreement was unfortunately unavoidable.

The group descended together.

Dumbledore led the way beside Mira while the others followed carefully behind: McGonagall, Snape, Flitwick, Sprout, Binns, and Alaric Silverthorne.

Pip scampered proudly ahead of everyone.

Briony waddled after him with delighted little chirps.

The deeper they went, the warmer the air became.

Not oppressively hot.

Ancient.

Like stone that had once known dragonfire and never entirely forgot it.

The walls changed gradually as they descended.

Modern Hogwarts stonework disappeared.

Older masonry emerged beneath it.

Massive blocks of black rock fused together by heat rather than mortar.

Flitwick ran trembling fingers across the wall.

“This predates the castle…”

“By centuries,” Binns whispered faintly.

The corridor widened.

And then they entered the chamber.

Everyone stopped.

The hidden sanctuary stretched enormous beneath the castle foundations.

The ceiling vanished upward into darkness supported by colossal stone pillars carved with spiraling dragons, stars, healing sigils, and ancient runes older than modern magical language.

The air smelled faintly of sulfur.

And old leather.

Exactly as Mira had described.

Massive iron braziers lined the chamber walls, though no flames burned within them now.

At the center stood the fossilized dragon eggshell where Pip and Briony had discovered the Dragon-Keeper’s Ouroboros.

Even empty, the shell radiated lingering magic.

McGonagall looked genuinely stunned.

“Hogwarts was built over this?”

“Yes,” Mira answered softly.

Dumbledore turned slowly in place, blue eyes reflecting the ancient carvings.

“No,” he corrected quietly. “Hogwarts was built because of this.”

Silence followed that statement.

Heavy.

Reverent.

Draco looked upward toward the vaulted darkness above them.

“You can feel it,” he murmured.

Snape glanced toward him briefly.

“Yes.”

Because they all could.

The chamber did not feel abandoned.

It felt sleeping.

Waiting.

Pip suddenly chirped loudly and scampered toward a stone platform near the far wall.

Briony followed immediately.

Mira smiled faintly.

“That’s where I found the memory traces.”

Flitwick perked up instantly.

“Memory traces?”

Mira nodded.

“I think the chamber preserved emotional magic.”

Alaric’s expression sharpened with interest.

“That would require an enormous magical event.”

Mira's wand bracelet snapped into wand form and landed in her hand.

“I can show you.”

The professors exchanged looks.

Then Mira stepped toward the center of the chamber.

The Dragon-Keeper’s Ouroboros rested against her chest beside the Whispering Jade Balm and the Blessing of Polaris.

All three artifacts glowed faintly together.

Mira inhaled softly.

Then pointed her wand toward the stone floor.

“Memoria Resonare.”

Silver-blue light exploded outward.

The chamber vanished.

And the past awakened.

Suddenly the sanctuary was alive.

Flames roared within the braziers.

Dragons moved overhead.

Real dragons.

Massive, winged creatures resting among towering stone arches while witches and wizards moved confidently among them.

The Ashkeepers.

The professors stared in astonishment.

They wore layered robes reinforced with dragon-scale leather, their arms marked with glowing runic tattoos that pulsed softly with healing magic.

Some tended wounded dragons.

Others worked beside great cauldrons filled with glowing potions.

Children ran through the sanctuary laughing fearlessly beneath dragon wings.

McGonagall whispered, “Extraordinary…”

Near the center platform stood a younger Salazar Slytherin.

Not the cold, severe figure from modern portraits.

This Salazar looked fierce.

Intelligent.

Sharp-eyed.

But alive in a way the portraits never captured.

His dark robes were sleeveless beneath heavy dragon-hide armor, revealing silver-green runes painted along his forearms.

Beside him stood a towering Ashkeeper woman with bronze skin and braided black hair threaded with gold rings.

A dragon rested calmly behind her.

Its massive green eyes remained fixed on Salazar.

“The dragon senses hesitation,” the woman said.

Her voice echoed through the memory chamber.

“Control born from fear becomes cruelty.”

Young Salazar frowned slightly.

“I do not fear it.”

“No,” the woman replied. “But you attempt to command it.”

She stepped beside the dragon and placed one hand gently against its scales.

“You listen first. Then guide.”

The dragon lowered its head toward her instantly.

Salazar watched carefully.

Absorbing every movement.

Every detail.

The Ashkeeper leader looked toward him again.

“Again.”

Salazar slowly approached the dragon.

This time, he did not reach for dominance.

He extended his hand quietly.

Patiently.

The dragon inhaled once.

Then lowered its enormous head toward him willingly.

Draco stared openly now, “That’s impossible.”

“No,” Alaric said quietly beside him. “It’s trust.”

The memory shifted.

Now Salazar stood beside several Ashkeeper healers.

A young wizard lay badly burned on a stone table, his breathing weak.

Dragonfire burns.

One healer placed glowing red crystals around the wounds.

Another directed heat through her palms.

Salazar watched intently.

“The body remembers pain,” an elderly healer told him. “If you force healing too quickly, the magic tears itself apart.”

Salazar’s expression remained deeply focused.

“So the fire must be calmed first.”

The healer nodded approvingly.

“Very good.”

He guided Salazar’s hands toward the injured wizard.

“Feel the imbalance.”

Slowly, green magic flowed from Salazar’s fingertips.

Not aggressive.

Precise.

Controlled.

The burns began stabilizing.

Flitwick gasped softly, “Healing-channel transference…”

“Advanced healing magic,” Madam Pomfrey would have called it.

But this was older than St. Mungo’s.

The memory shifted again.

This time violently.

Sirens echoed through the sanctuary.

Dragons roared overhead.

The next moment—

the battle arrived.

Dark wizards stormed into the sanctuary wearing blackened armor lined with dragonbone.

Behind them came poachers carrying enchanted chains designed to restrain dragons.

One wounded dragon crashed into the chamber roaring in agony.

And Salazar moved instantly.

Not away from the danger.

Toward it.

“Protect the hatchlings!” he shouted.

His voice thundered through the sanctuary.

The memory blazed brighter.

Spells erupted everywhere.

Then another figure charged into the battle wielding a sword glowing gold-red.

Godric Gryffindor.

He laughed as he fought.

Actually laughed.

“You ugly bastards picked the wrong sanctuary!”

His enchanted blade smashed through cursed chains while he shielded an injured Ashkeeper child behind him.

Rowena Ravenclaw appeared moments later.

Calm.

Terrifyingly precise.

Blue-white magic spiraled from her wand in intricate geometric patterns that dismantled incoming curses before they could strike.

“Left flank collapsing,” she called sharply.

Salazar immediately pivoted.

Their coordination was flawless.

Like they had fought together many times before.

Draco stared openly, “They trusted each other.”

“Yes,” Dumbledore said softly.

The memory battle intensified.

Dark wizards attempted to corner a wounded dragon.

Then Salazar hissed in Parseltongue.

The sanctuary walls answered.

Massive serpent-shaped stone guardians erupted from the floor and smashed through the attackers.

At the same time, Godric launched himself directly into the center of the enemy line with reckless delight.

“THAT’S RIGHT,” he shouted. “COME TRY YOUR LUCK!”

McGonagall pinched the bridge of her nose, “He was insufferable even then.”

Flitwick wheezed with laughter.

Meanwhile Rowena moved through the battlefield like controlled lightning.

Every spell exact.

Every movement efficient.

An Ashkeeper healer stumbled beside her carrying injured children.

Rowena immediately redirected her shield charms around them instead of attacking.

“Move!” she ordered. “Go!”

Then came Helga Hufflepuff.

And the entire atmosphere changed.

While the others fought, Helga organized.

Stabilized.

Protected.

Wounded Ashkeepers filled the sanctuary center as Helga knelt beside them with sleeves rolled up and golden healing magic flowing from both hands.

“You’re safe,” she told a terrified child gently, “Breathe for me, darling.”

The child obeyed instantly.

Helga looked upward toward the battle raging overhead.

“Salazar!”

Without looking back, he answered:

“I know.”

A dark curse struck toward the healers.

Salazar intercepted it instantly.

The curse shattered harmlessly against his shield.

Helga didn’t even flinch.

Because she trusted him completely.

Snape watched the memory silently.

But something in his expression had shifted.

The battle finally turned.

Dragons descended from the sanctuary ceiling with deafening roars.

The poachers broke ranks.

Dark wizards retreated.

And eventually—

silence returned.

Smoke drifted through the sanctuary.

The Ashkeepers gathered among the wounded.

Godric leaned heavily against a pillar breathing hard.

“Well,” he declared. “That was unpleasant.”

Rowena looked exhausted.

“You say that after every battle.”

“Because it keeps being true.”

Helga smiled tiredly while healing a dragon hatchling’s injured wing.

Then the Ashkeeper leader approached the four founders.

Older now.

Wearier.

“We cannot remain here,” she said quietly.

The sanctuary fell silent.

“More will come.”

Salazar’s jaw tightened.

“They will continue hunting you.”

“Yes.”

The Ashkeeper leader looked around the sanctuary sadly.

“Our existence endangers the dragons now.”

Godric frowned.

“So what are you saying?”

The woman stepped toward them slowly.

“This sanctuary must survive.”

Her eyes moved between all four founders.

“You wish to build a place for magical learning.”

Rowena straightened slightly.

“Yes.”

“A place where magic is understood,” Helga added softly.

“Not feared,” Salazar finished.

The Ashkeeper leader nodded.

“Then take this place.”

Shock crossed their faces.

Godric blinked.

“You’re giving it to us?”

“We are entrusting it to you.”

The woman looked toward the sanctuary around them.

“These halls were built to protect knowledge, creatures, and those with magic in their blood.”

Her gaze sharpened.

“Promise us you will teach magic correctly.”

Not for power.

Not for status.

Not for fear.

The four founders exchanged long looks.

Then Helga stepped forward first.

“I promise.”

Rowena followed quietly.

“So do I.”

Godric planted his sword against the ground.

“You have my word.”

Finally, Salazar stepped forward.

The chamber seemed to still around him.

“I swear it,” he said solemnly. “This sanctuary will endure.”

The Ashkeeper leader smiled faintly.

“Then let it become something greater than us.”

The memory began fading.

But one final image remained.

The four founders standing together beside the Ashkeepers beneath the sanctuary ceiling—

united.

Not divided.

Not enemies.

Builders.

Protectors.

Guardians.

Then the vision dissolved.

The chamber returned.

Silence crashed down around the group.

Nobody spoke immediately.

Even Binns looked shaken.

Draco stared at the ancient stone beneath his feet differently now.

As though realizing Hogwarts itself had roots far older than house rivalries.

Far older than prejudice.

Dumbledore’s eyes remained fixed on the sanctuary.

“They built Hogwarts upon a promise,” he said softly.

“Yes,” Mira whispered.

McGonagall folded her arms tightly, “And history reduced it to arguments over blood purity.”

Snape’s expression darkened faintly, “History often prefers simpler lies.”

Alaric looked toward Mira then.

Pride flickered openly in his blue eyes.

“You found the truth beneath the castle.”

Mira glanced toward Pip and Briony.

The two Nifflers chirped proudly.

Draco exhaled quietly, “I’m never underestimating them again.”

Pip immediately puffed up further.

Briony nearly fell over from happiness.

And somewhere deep beneath Hogwarts—

the ancient sanctuary seemed warmer now.

As though the castle itself remembered the promise too.
