Night had settled over Hogwarts like a heavy velvet curtain.

The corridors felt colder than usual.

The caretaker's rigid body floated gently into the air.

Mrs. Norris refused to leave his side.

The cat trotted beneath him the entire journey.

Occasionally looking up as though checking that he remained there.

Gemma and Daphne exchanged glances, "We'll get Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall."

Mira nodded, "Go."

The two girls immediately hurried away.

The rest continued toward the Hospital Wing.

Madam Pomfrey was waiting when they arrived.

Finn sat proudly atop a nearby cabinet.

Mission accomplished.

The nurse immediately moved into action.

The thought was unpleasant.

Then everyone waited.

The minutes felt endless.

Mrs. Norris sat on Mira’s lap, who was gently petting her.

Never taking her eyes off Filch.

Every so often her tail twitched anxiously.

The caretaker visibly relaxed.

Only then did Filch notice Mira.

Mrs. Norris remained pressed against her side.

The cat had apparently decided Mira was trustworthy.

Filch's eyes softened.

"Miss Silverthorne."

Mira stepped closer, "Mr. Filch."

The caretaker hesitated.

Something vulnerable flickered across his face.

Something few students had ever seen.

"Would you..."

He glanced toward Mrs. Norris.

The cat immediately moved closer to Mira.

Filch gave a weak smile, "Would you look after her while I'm recovering?"

The request stunned several people.
