Emotions Are For Children

I was an actor.

Living on the stage.

Each feeling tucked deep inside.

Fearing what would happen,

if I didn't follow the script.

Bunching myself up

leaving wrinkles and cracks

like an old tshirt in a rotting house

ripping with any slight tug.

How hard is it to cut the strings?

How hard is it to feel

when you've never felt before?

How hard is it to grow older

And newer in the same moment?

Now, I have a ticket to the theater.

I sit in the stands and watch.

My tears are mortar

and my smile is an iron.

I can find the room to pity

the other actors

as they crumble in their own time

and when there is nothing left
