After taking the assessment test, they were back in their classroom, while in the hallways, whispers on their insane test scores filled the halls and girls started to have crushes on them—even seniors and teachers—especially on Anas because of his thinking and his background as an aristocrat.
Luckily, Nex and Karasu were there to be his bodyguards from all the girls who liked him for his family's riches.
"We are basically the strongest students in the school. If we work together, with my strategies, your unpredictability and your trapping skills, we can actually stand a chance against a magnitude 2 gate," Anas said with confidence.
"That means we can go to the southern region of the kingdom and destroy the Cruel camps in the forest, though definitely with a lot of difficulty," Karasu said.
"And that is exactly what you three are about to do," a voice behind them said. They turned around and saw their homeroom teacher: Mr Blaze.
"You three are already the strongest in your class and can fight on par with seniors, so I want you three to go on a mission in the forest to slay the finger and destroy the camp," Mr Blaze said. A finger is the equivalent to a copper ranked mage, they are generals in the army and their intelligence is 80 to 100 IQ.
"Would that be too much for us? A full camp and a finger is hard to conquer. They have the numbers and more resources. If the three of us try to conquer it, we would each lose an arm and leg," Anas said worryingly.
"Don't worry so much, Anas. If we are in a sticky situation, we can just make a distraction and escape," Nex said.
"That's easy to say, but hard to execute. That won't work unless there are only a handful of them remaining," Anas said with concern.
"Then that is exactly what we will do, kill as many as possible to make an easier escape for ourselves if we are in a dire situation," Karasu said with confidence. Anas decided to trust them, but he was still worried.
"Alright, you guys will be gone for hopefully at most a week. If you three are injured, stay in the forest to rest before you head back and remember to bring a part of the finger to prove the completion of the mission. Is that clear enough?" Asked Mr Blaze. They nodded and went off on their journey.
After the three boys packed their things up for the journey, they took an academy carriage to the station in the southern gate in Last Star. It's the kingdom's name and it originated from their first king saw that the last star was different from the rest, it was brighter, its shape was sharper and it was faster than the rest, almost like it was the alpha in the pack and so, the kingdom was named after it to symbolize that it is the alpha and the rest of the kingdoms were merely the weaker ones.
"Alright, so the rest of the journey will be on foot, the gate is about ten kilometers in the forest. If we spot any Cruels outside of the camp, Karasu will shoot one of his blood orbs to kill the enemy. Once we're near the camp, I will drop chunks of sapphire onto them while Nex shoot waves of bones from the ground. We will then kill the rest and fight the finger in a one against three to boost our odds," Anas explained.
"What if there is reinforcement?" Asked Nex.
"Then you will summon a wall of bones to keep them away from the main fight. We will deal with them after we killed the finger," Anas replied.
With their plan ready, they set off to the forest. The forest is actually part of Last Star's territory and it was the kingdom's job to kill the threats in the forest, but due to the lack of danger the ones in the forest posed, it became a training ground for the Celestial Star Academy. Although there's also another school in Last Star, it's much weaker and it's only for the average students while stronger students are accepted into Celestial Star.
They traveled into the forest and came across a few of the Cruels, but they easily dealt with them. It took them three days just to arrive near the camp and they were already prepared to strike.
"Everybody knows what they need to do?" asked Anas, Karasu and Nex nodded and their plan was set in motion.
Anas and Nex's eyes glowed bright in the shadows of the trees and thundering sounds echoed the entire forest. They then charged in, Anas made use of his new buckshot attack to shoot Cruels one at a time, Karasu formed his blood armor and scythe and was wreaking havoc with blood dripping from where he stood and Nex was piercing Cruels with his bones.
The sounds of pain and agony from the Cruels finally gone silent and only the finger was left. Its eyes glowed with a bright orange as it then summoned lava from the palms of its hands, the surrounding was being charred, and the trees behind it were engulfed with flames.
Anas saw a very big weakness in its ability, and shouted "It's not turning into a solid like crow's blood, it's still a liquid, so it can't be shot too far into the sky!"
After hearing that, Nex created bone platforms for them to stand on and they rained down sapphire, bones and blood onto it. However its physical strength was still high and it crushed the platform that Anas was standing on and he had to make his own platform using sapphire.
They kept this up until Nex's bones were starting to turn to dust, the trio realized he was almost at his limit and they had to finish the finger off before they all fall into the lava.
Nex couldn't use any of his bones since he was now focusing on keeping up his platforms, Anas' buckshot was not fast enough and even if they hit, it did basically nothing to it and Karasu's orbs were now taking a longer time to make and losing their shapes.
When everything was starting to look bad for them, Anas thought of an idea that he himself didn't even know if it would work, but it was the only way that they might be able to kill it.
"Crow! I will shoot some chunks of sapphire and you will jump on them and butcher the finger's head clean off!" Shouted Anas.
"Are you kidding me?! That's stupid! If I miss even a single step, I will just burn alive! And I'm not sure if your floating and moving sapphire would make a good platform to jump on!!" Karasu replied with doubt.
"It's our only hope! Your scythe can definitely kill the finger and the lava will disappear. Just trust me. It's do or die!" Anas said.
"I am too reckless and I will mess up!" screamed Karasu.
"It's either we have a guaranteed way to the afterlife or we have a chance to live! Come on!" Nex shouted, barely holding up and panting heavily.
