After picking the head up from the ground, they all celebrated. "That was insane crow!! You nailed that move!" Nex exclaimed.
"Alright Anas, next time, THINK OF SOMETHING SAFER!! Oh My God, I am never doing that again!" Karasu shouted at Anas.
"Okay okay, I will try, but that was the only way. You were the only one who had the power to do it," Anas said.
"And I know Nex has the power, but if he tried to shoot any more bones to kill the finger, his power would exceed his limit and he might become short sighted or even blind," Anas explained. When an awakener uses too much of their ability, their eyes would get damaged, from shortsighted to blindness. This is why in a battle with awakeners, the battle is not fully decided by their strength, it's also decided by their resilience and eye control.
However, while they were resting after their battle with the finger, the walls came crashing down, Cruels that looked like ogres appeared and surrounded them.
"Oh fuck, hey Anas, got any more plans to save us? I am already gassed out." Nex said with barely enough air to keep standing.
"Nope, I am also almost drained after the raid and the only way out that I can think of is for all of us to focus on one wall and escape," said Anas worryingly.
"Well, this is our only shot at surviving, so get ready," said Karasu.
They ready up whatever magic they had left that won't cause them any eye damage and charged the wall behind them. The Cruels were durable, but they split past the Cruels and ran deeper into the forest.
"Don't chase them, I am sure that they won't make it out of the forest alive," a voice rang with an evil laughter while the boys were running and didn't hear the voice.
"How much longer do we need to run? I am already exhausted!" Nex said with the last amount of air in his lungs.
"This should be far enough," Anas said while panting heavily.
"Our supplies!! We left them at the camp! Shit, we might not be able to get back to the academy," Karasu said with a worrying look.
"Our only hope is to hunt for food in the forest and avoid the Cruels. After a few days, we can head back to the academy," Anas explained.
"We don't even have a compass to guide us. How will we know which way we need to go?" Nex asked.
"Using the Sun, duh. It rises from the east, so we will know which way to go," Anas said.
"But we are in the southern part of the kingdom, how would the information of east and west help us?" asked Karasu.
"We will get out of the forest first by going east because the east side is thinner than the west and then go back to the kingdom. If we see the Alps, then we will walk away from them and we can walk back to Last Star. And plus, this is a great opportunity for us to live in these conditions, so if we are stuck in a similar situation, we will know how to live," Explained Anas.
Time flew by in a blur, at first they struggled as they weren't taught much about surviving in the wild, but they slowly made progress.
"These wild animals are much easier than the Cruels, this is a much needed breather," Nex said while having a boar pierced through his bone arms.
"After we managed to make the fire, everything else was easy," Karasu said while dragging a lion.
"Schools should have taught us these survival skills because most missions need them, plus, they are very handy in situations like this, but I guess learning about magic is more useful in our daily lives," Anas said.
"How long should we stay in here? Mr Blaze wants us to get back in a week and we are already on the fourth day. We will definitely be late," said Nex.
"He told us to stay in the forest if we are in danger, so we weren't in a hurry. Maybe an extra day here before we head back, this should give us enough time to recover," Anas said.
"Will we run into other kinds of danger besides the Cruels?" Karasu asked.
Anas explained"Only two creatures are strong enough to be a real threat, but we have a low chance to encounter them, the first one is the Minotaur, its dominion is near the centre of the forest so we don't really have to be afraid of it. The second one is the spider queen and her millions of poisonous children. Her habitat is underground so as long as we don't-"
Before he could finish his explanation, a roar could be heard, it was the Minotaur. "I thought you said it lived near the centre!" shouted Nex.
"It should be, I don't know," Anas said with confusion.
Then suddenly, hundreds of thousands of poisonous black and purple spiders came out along with the queen. "And what about that?" Karasu shouted.
"I have no clue, but we have to fight them," said Anas.
"I will deal with the Minotaur, you guys can fight the spiders," after Karasu said that, he lept towards the Minotaur with his eyes glowing with a deep red and frustration, his scythe crashed with its battle axe with sparks flying around.
Anas summoned chunks of sapphire and crushed thousands of spiders while Nex summoned his two bone arms and clashed with the spider queen's blade-like legs.
While Karasu was focused on the Minotaur, a few spiders bit him, but Karasu then used his own blood to form a poisonous tip on his scythe. He brushed the spiders off on himself and was poisoning the Minotaur, slowly chipping away its strength, Anas was steadily lowering the numbers of spiders while avoiding being bitten and Nex figured out the joints of the legs are the weak spot and already cut off four of its eight legs.
After Karasu dealt with the Minotaur, he shifted his focus onto the spider queen though the poison tip was already used up, the numbers of little spiders were already down to a few hundreds, seeing this, the spider queen decided to retreat back into the caves to protect her children.
"That was way easier than I expected. We can drag the Minotaur's corpse and the chopped off legs of the spider queen to sell them to ANGEL. We should get a pretty penny with them," Anas said.
"But I am still confused, why did they suddenly showed up and fought us?" Karasu asked.
"I still have no idea, but we should report it back to the academy," Anas said.
"Let's first just get back to the academy before any more creatures attack us," said Nex. While hiding behind a tree, a figure said "they are much stronger than I thought, very interesting.
